What was your favorite holiday tradition as a little one? I think for many kiddos these days it is seeing all the hilarious things their Elf on the shelf does throughout the holiday season. From hilarious arrivals to big messes and heartfelt goodbyes, these little elves can become a big part of the family! If you haven’t taken part in this tradition yet, the basic idea is that Santa sends a scout elf out to your house to help manage his naughty and nice list. They “report” back to Santa nightly and when your kiddos wake up they will be in a new spot. There’s a storybook to read all about the tradition. However, first of all, you will need to name your new family elf! here are 199 Elf name ideas to get you started!

Getting started with Elf on the Shelf

Order your elf today and read the book together to get started! Naming your elf will make this fantasy world come alive to your little one, but then it’s up to you to keep the magic alive throughout the season! My advice is to keep the Elf’s hiding places simple and just try to do something fun once or twice a week. This will keep you from burning out (hello, the holiday season is already exhausting for parents!). It will also keep it exciting for your little one since they never know when their elf might be up to something.

Another thing to remember, this doesn’t have to be a cookie-cutter tradition! get creative and make it your own if you’re up to it. have one or two or three elves if you want. let your kids give them whatever wacky elf names they come up with. read the book together to kick off your holiday season. These are the things your kiddos are going to look back on and remember about Christmas, not the presents.
